the value of a person

More often than not we're so overwhelmed with the ins and outs of our day-to-day that we rarely stop to think about the value of those around us; whether they be coworkers, family members, friends, or significant others. Sometimes it takes an absence, void of said person's presence, for us to truly understand their worth.

Whether it's in the form of work that is less impactful, less meaningful, and generally lacks that same quality it once had when they were involved.

Maybe it's a sister who's moved away, and though you talk to her pretty much every day, you still long to go on shopping adventures of coffee excursions on a whim - without having to book a flight.

Or if it's friends, who you don't get to see very often. Life has this funny way of making everything else seem so urgent that you forget to make time for those that matter - perhaps it's because you know they'll still be around when life decides to ease up a bit.

Perhaps even a lover, a continent away, thousands of miles between. Even though the decision may be by choice, it doesn't make the distance any less difficult.

Every so often we need to step outside of ourselves; outside of the chaos that mutes the things (people) that are most important. Sometimes we just need a moment - one filled with silence - to remember their worth.

Maybe this lesson would be best taught up front; so we wouldn't have to go be reminded of their worth through heart ache.

Perhaps we need to saturate our lives with busy work a bit less and appreciate a bit more.
